Issue 146 is the one hundred and forty-sixth edition of Sonic the Comic. Released on the 30th December 1998 at the price of £1.25, the issue contains three new, original stories and one reprint, as well as several features and a Sonic the Hedgehog pin-up.

Strips
Sonic the Hedgehog
Earth Attacks is a 2-part story by Lew Stringer, Richard Elson, Nigel Kitching and Ellie de Ville. It's New Year's Eve in the Emerald Hill Zone but the celebrations are shattered when Colonel Granite and his soldiers use their time machine to invade Mobius. The Freedom Fighters put up a brave fight but are outnumbered, so Sonic takes the opportunity to visit the crowded and polluted Planet Earth.
Super Sonic
Return of the Nightmare is a 3-part story by Kitching, with art by Roberto Corona and John M Burns, letters from Elitta Fell. Super, Ebony and Pyjamas are walking through The Neighbourhood and discussing Super's past when a train derails over a bridge. Super reluctantly uses his powers to save the people on board, but this unlocks the demon inside. In the Control Centre, the Kintobor Computer alerts Sonic to this huge problem.
Amy
New Year Out is a complete story in the Eternity Ring story arc, written by Stringer, drawn by Nigel Dobbyn and lettered by Tom Frame. Amy and Tekno the Canary's next destination is to the Time Stream, where the Spirits of the Years Past are having trouble with the Time Waster. Amy must stop 1930 from entering the stream before time folds in on itself. Fortunately, she is successful, allowing 1999 to do his job.
Features
The theme of this week's Graphic Zone is "Have A Fine '99", with the STC cast ringing in the new year in style. Printed pictures won Boomers a Sonic the Hedgehog watch.
