Pandas are large mammals from Planet Earth and Mobius (although not so large there). The bears are well-known herbivores that love to snack on bamboo. Unfortunately, they are coming close to extinction in the real world and many conservation projects are attempting to save them (with the World Wildlife Fund using one as a logo). Despite their cute and cuddly appearance, pandas are still bears and are extremely aggressive if approached or threatened.

• A panda greeted Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary during their journeys through the Ring of Eternity, informing them that they had landed in Mobius 5000AD! The caped citizen had expected their arrival and excitedly told them that their adventures were best-sellers in the history chips. However, he seemed to enjoy the fact that the girls' technology and knowledge was completely outdated, sharing a joke with a monkey. This was until they saved him from an attack by technology-sapper Gremlyn. The heroes faded off to their next destination before he could warn them of the dangers ahead of them.

• Another panda was a citizen of the Hidden Zone before moving to the Emerald Hill Zone to team up with the Emerald Hill folk. The panda may be called Sammy, but confusion arises when he also calls his hippopotamus friend "Sammy".

• A young cub from the Maple Flower Zone was one of the refugees escorted away from the war-torn area by Tails and The Ultimax. The child latched on to Holly Thumpfoot, who he believed to be "funny". When Badniks arrived to attack them, the panda hurried back to find Tails and get help.
